Dakota Shy Wine

Estate

Dakota Shy is located on a beautiful estate, at the base of Pritchard Hill, in the heart of Napa Valley. The early history of the property pre-dates the statehood of California – going back to 1836 when George C. Yount was gifted the Rancho Caymus land grant by General Vallejo. From the 1850s onward, the property was a stop on the wagon route for those heading north to Calistoga or over Sage Canyon Road to the Sacramento valley.

In 2014, we purchased the property from long-time owners, the de Limur family, and built a world-class winery.  Charles de Limur, great-grandson of pioneering California banker and railroad executive Charles Crocker, owned the property from the 1960s and was responsible for planting the beautiful redwood and magnolia trees that dot the estate. Mr. de Limur also planted 1.2 acres of Italian and Spanish olives from which we press our own oil. In the 1980’s, the de Limurs had planted a Chardonnay vineyard on the property and built a small winery. It was that small winery that first brought us to this soulful site and gave us the inspiration to build Dakota Shy. The balance of estate’s historic significance, along with the legacy we are building, is unmistakable when you visit our winery.

We look forward to welcoming you for a scheduled visit to Dakota Shy, request a visit here.

Vineyards

It is known that only the best grapes make the best wines, period. Singularly the most important piece to the overall success of Dakota Shy has been the ability to secure some of the new and most exciting vineyards in Napa Valley: next generation sites sure to become legendary.

Dakota Shy sources grapes from all over Napa Valley: from the mountains of Howell and Veeder, to Pritchard Hill, the bench of Oak Knoll, and the stunning valley floor AVAs of Oakville, St. Helena and Calistoga. These sites offer unique and varied characteristics that Dakota Shy elevates to create complex, sophisticated and powerful Cabernets.
